    Kase is the german word for cheese, I am a former chef and of german heritage, there is also Neutefchel.

    It may have been Lippenauer Käse. That’s very popular with bread.

    Be grateful it wasn’t “Stink Käse,” which I was introduced to once at a Biergarten. I thought: “incredible, the fussy Germans would allow rotting garbage near their picnic tables?” Then somebody explained the smell was the Stink Käse.” Everyone had a big laugh.

    It was probably what we know as Limberger. It was foul.
